Winsens strike early and hold firm to defeat Rangebrew 4–1

The Winsens came out firing on all cylinders Tuesday night at PASA, using a dominant first period to cruise past Rangebrew 4–1.

#92 Mark Boyd led the way with a pair of goals just 35 seconds apart midway through the opening frame, setting the tone for a night dominated by puck control and smart play. Boyd opened the scoring at 6:47, taking a feed from #6 Dan Scott and #73 Rob Sitzes before snapping a quick shot glove-side. Moments later, Boyd struck again, finishing off a clean passing sequence from #28 Brett Eveson and Sitzes to double the lead.

Before the period ended, #78 Craig Journeay added another, burying a rebound off a feed from #72 Hugo Troccoli and #76 Quinton Wilson to make it 3–0 Winsens after twenty minutes.

Rangebrew pushes back

Rangebrew regrouped in the second period and began to find their rhythm. #8 Jesse Page broke through at 6:05, driving to the net to bury a setup from #5 Anthony Ziccarelli. The goal gave Rangebrew some life, as they outshot Winsens 15–14 in the period.

Between the pipes

Worsley handled the first 30 minutes for Winsens, stopping 14 of 15 shots (.933 SV%) before handing the crease to Kakaraza, who was perfect on 10 saves the rest of the way.

For Rangebrew, their rotation reversed — Kakaraza took the first half and stopped all 14 shots faced (.1000 SV%), while Worsley played the final 15 minutes, turning aside 8 of 11 (.727 SV%).

Post-Game Reactions as overheard by the Convenor (this is what he thought he heard)

#92 Mark Boyd (Winsens):

“The puck was bouncing our way early. We had great movement down low, and the boys found me in the slot twice. It’s fun when the chemistry clicks like that.”

#76 Quinton Wilson (Winsens Captain):

“That’s the kind of start we’ve been talking about — fast, sharp, and unselfish. Everyone bought in tonight, and our goaltending was rock-solid.”

#8 Jesse Page (Rangebrew):

“We didn’t show up early, plain and simple. But after the first, we settled in and actually carried the play for stretches. We’ll regroup — there’s a lot of good in how we finished.”
